"Makin' Banana Pancakes"

Some of you might not know this but about 5 weeks ago I changed jobs and let me tell you its been the best decision I have done for myself. I now work at Minot State University as a Financial Aid Counselor I could go on and on about why it is so great but I will just list some key points. I am loving my job position and everyone I work with. They are all so kind and helpful and always nice. I just am truly blessed to work with amazing people that make me love and enjoy going to work. Not only do I have rockin' coworkers but I now have weekends off. Anyone that is blessed with weekends off do not take them for granted. I worked for almost three years working every Saturday. This put tension and stress on my life and relationship because Matt and I only got to be with each other on Sundays and it always felt like we needed to do chores or get other things done.  Now we are truly enjoying each other :)

Now don't get me wrong I know there aren't people out there that have this opportunity and they are working so hard to make ends meet and I feel for you. But every weekend I have had off so far I have completely enjoyed. I have been able to spend time with my husband and puppy Stella so much more. We have grown so much as a family and it just puts a smile on my face because I am so incredibly happy and blessed.

This weekend just seemed so perfect. Just the simplicity of being with each other is really all that matters.  This weekend I ended up shopping for some fabrics for aprons I am making for a customer. Yes it is my first sale and I am so excited and eager to get them done and finished to see how they turn out. I promise I will post them once they are done and delivered.  I just started making them and hope to just keep building my lil' business. Also we ended up going grocery shopping which to most people is just a dreadful thing but I clearly enjoy it. I know crazy. Matt and I also ended up doing our usual Starbucks date, going out to eat, playing a few games of Scrabble (I have yet to win with him. No matter how hard I try I always get crushed. Geez....you think he would give me some sympathy ;)   and one of my favorite things to do is make breakfast with him on Sunday mornings. I also got a little sewing in until I ran out of thread....ugh.

Here are a few pictures to sum up the Benson families weekend......

A sign of comfort and love.

I just love, love, love aprons. There are really none alike. My goal is to make fun and funky aprons for all to enjoy. They have so much character and personality to them. I always remember my grandmother wearing them and think of all the amazing meals and goodies she would make while wearing her apron. This gives me a warm and comforting feeling inside.

Here are some I have made so far and have many more to come. I am always open to suggestions on colors and patterns.

For the love of quilting.

In January I started a beginner quilting class. Not knowing if I would like it or not. Well I LOVED it and am completely hooked and addicted. I have already compiled a stack of fabrics. A girl can never have too much fabric. I just finished my very first quilt and I know its not perfect but I am proud of what I made. I loved how these fabrics work so well together. Below I have posted some more pictures of the quilt. Enjoy!!

I owe Mardi a huge huge thank you for being such a great teacher and mentor. She taught me the basics of quilting and is constantly helping with me when I visit her at her quilt store. You really don't know how much I appreciate all of your help.

This past weekend like I talked about earlier I attended my very first quilt show and Mardi and her shop The Quilted Bean was a vendor there. I felt very blessed and honored because she wanted to hang my quilt up for show. I didn't enter it in a contest but she had it up for all too see in her booth. I was very proud. Next year I will be brave enough for all to judge :)

This and that.

I know its been awhile since I posted last. You can thank our little girl Stella for that. She seems to love chewing on cords, shoes and pretty much anything like that. This will now be our second go around with getting a cord from Apple for our Mac.....thank you warranty for covering it. But I mean seriously how could you get mad at this face.....

I was lucky enough to borrow a charger to get some juice for me to write.  Thanks Kristi :)

These last few weeks I have been busy quilting, sewing aprons and this weekend I went to my very first quilt show. I love it and learned so much. I cant wait to post pictures of all of my creations very soon. Something for you to look forward to.

Speaking of this weekend. I love family time and anytime we can get together just makes me happy. So my parents and brother came up for the weekend and we also had my cousins over for a great meal that my mom cooked. She is the best cook if you didn't know ;) Hope you all had a wonderful weekend as well and stop back soon for more updates.

.....here it goes.

So welcome to the page that defines me. I live a simple life with so much to be thankful for. I am new to the "blog" world and am really looking forward to it. I have family and friends from all over and hoping this will be another way to keep in touch with everyone. I also would like to share ideas and interests for all who are willing.

I have recently found my new love and passion in life. Sewing! There are so many endless possibilities and everyday I am just filled with more things I want to try. Right now I am working on aprons and just love making them.

That's all for now. Thanks for stopping by and hope you come back!!
